College Interns Gain Meaningful Experience at Exide
The start of summer for many college students means relaxing, traveling, having fun with friends, or maybe taking on a part-time job. However, some students use the summer months to get real work experience in their field of study through internship programs. Eight students recently completed their summer internship with Exide at the Americas headquarters in Milton, Georgia.
“Exide’s internship program is a professional learning opportunity that offers meaningful, practical work, related to a student's career interest, and true to that, this summer, we offered a very structured program to our eight interns,” said Vivian Nwaneri, Manager, Human Resources. “We worked closely with the students and their Exide managers to ensure that meaningful projects and tasks were assigned and that proper mentoring was provided.”
Exide hired interns for several diverse functions, including engineering, human resources, marketing, quality, and customer service. Each intern was then assigned a specific manager who was responsible for providing day-to-day guidance and assigning meaningful tasks and projects to the intern.
The 10-week program included multiple touch-points sessions for the group, starting with an introductory luncheon for all the interns and their managers. Mid-way through the summer, the group gathered to share a status on their experience and provide feedback. The program wrapped up with a farewell outing to TopGolf where each intern received a thank-you gift.
At the conclusion of the summer intern program, each student delivered a “Capstone” presentation that summarized the primary project they completed. In attendance were department team members, managers and several executives.
“The interns did a fantastic job presenting their projects,” said Nwaneri. “An added benefit was that they got experience presenting in front of peers and business executives.”
“My experience as an intern at Exide has been priceless,” said Erin Lenius, Exide Summer Intern for Human Resources. “I have gained more knowledge than I could have imagined about my future career, and my team has given me the real-world practice I will need in order to be successful.”?
The Americas team is already preparing for the summer of 2020, with intern recruiting events at Georgia Tech and Kennesaw State University. View the open intern positions here.
